System Requirements

The following equipment and software are recommended for the most effective learning experience:
  • Web Browser: Netscape 7.1+ and Internet Explorer 5.5+
(for Mac users, please use Netscape and Safari only.)
  • Modem Connection Speed: 28.8K or higher
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Windows Media Player (PC and MAC),
or Real Media player (PC and Mac),
or Quicktime Media Player (Mac only)

Web Browser

You can download at no charge the latest version of Netscape from Netscape's web site at http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/ or Internet Explorer from Microsoft's web site at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/.

For the navigation to function properly, please ensure that JavaScript and cookies are enabled (it is enabled by default so you shouldn't have any problems -- you can verify that by going to the 'settings' options for your browser).

Hardware

Any color monitor can be used. The larger your screen the better, because you'll be able to see more content on each page; we recommend using a 15" monitor or larger. Set your resolution to what is comfortable for your eyes. The minimum resolution is 800 x 600.

Although there is no enforced minimum, you will be more comfortable if you use a modem featuring a speed of 28.8kb or higher. The faster the connection, the faster each page will load. Some videos in the cases require 56kb or higher connection speed.

Software

The Adobe Acrobat Reader may already be installed on your system. Before installing, check to see whether it already resides on your system. In windows, go to the start menu, then programs, then look for Adobe or Adobe Acrobat in your program group. If you do not see it, and clicking on PDF link results in a "can't open document" message, then please download and install Adobe Acrobat reader. To download at no charge, click here.

There are a few videos available in these cases, you will need to have a player to view them. On Windows systems, the windows media player should already be installed (download here). You can also use the Real Media Player (download here) or Quicktime Player (download here) if you are a Mac user.
