Focus on bacterial vaginosis (BV) and trichomonas vaginitis
Goal: To improve health care providers' ability to recognize, diagnose and treat Vaginitis.
- Describe the initial clinical approach to a female patient with a complaint of vaginal discharge including history and physical examination.
- Identify the typical signs and symptoms of the common types of infectious vaginitis.
- Select the appropriate laboratory tests for infectious vaginitis.
- Describe the diagnostic criteria for bacterial vaginosis (BV) and trichomonas vaginitis.
- Describe the appropriate treatment for BV and trichomonas vaginitis.
- Explain the inter-relationships between BV and trichomonas vaginitis and infection with Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
- Explain how Stage-based Behavioral Counseling can be used for STD/HIV prevention.
- Explain the recommendations for management of sexual partners of women with BV and/or trichomonas vaginitis.
